About the co-op (affectionately called Eyja, short for the Icelandic volcano that no one can pronounce):

• We are a group of 8 social justice-minded grad students, professionals, teachers, farmers, musicians, poets, hikers, dancers, readers, travelers, and dreamers living in a beautiful 1904 house in central Palo Alto.
• Our house is a 4-minute cycle from the city center and 10-minute cycle from Stanford campus. We have spacious shared indoor cooking & living spaces and a beautiful porch and garden.
• We want to build a community in which all are welcome, and are committed to learning from all of our members. Some of the values we are excited to cultivate are: radical hospitality, diversity, learning, egalitarianism, cleanliness, fairness, and sustainability.q
• Community is important to us! In addition to house dinners (food is a love language), we build community through events such as monthly second Sunday vegan potlucks, open mic nights, dance parties, co-op crawls. At the same time, we give space for productivity and personal time. We are looking for a housemate who is excited to contribute to our communal living, by bending our minds with new ideas and viewpoints, ukulele jam sessions, or banana-pancake making skills.
• We’ve found that communal living can save you a lot of time and money: the house shares groceries, and we usually cook 4 shared vegetarian / vegan-friendly dinners per week. All groceries plus utilities are covered by monthly $290 house dues.

About the rooms:

• 2 person bedroom and bathroom

  • We are looking for a couple to join our community starting this spring (between April and July)
  • Beautiful second floor bedroom costs $2000 per month
  • The room is furnished with a king sized bed, bookshelves, desk, walk-in closet and a full bathroom

• Spacious 1 person attic bedroom

  • We are looking for 1 person to fill this room and join our community starting in June
  • The available bedroom costs $1100 per month
  • The affordable room has a sky light, large floor space, bookshelves, twin bed, and a desk

Here is a little more about us:

• P: Half German, half Polish, Philipp loves bringing people together for parties, potlucks, backpacking trips, festivals, and late-night astronomy adventures. Having lived on five continents, he’s developed a deep appreciation for nature and a passion for environmentalism and animal rights. Philipp currently works in the business of splitting water.
• S: Mushrooms forager, jewelry maker, trail runner - a ball of energy with a bubble machine strapped to his bike. Loves to DJ at our house dance parties
• L: Garden teacher, outdoor enthusiast, lover of plants, and flower admirer!
• S: left the flat Copenhagen in search of California’s mountains. She likes documentaries, marxism, making hummus & finding free things on the streets of Palo Alto :)
• E: Ecologist, teacher, and grad student by day. Tinkering with bicycles, baking bread, cooking with friends, and hiking by night
• P: half American, half Spanish, he makes the best homemade paella you’ve ever tried. He cares deeply about growing the local co-op community, and has lead the charge in hosting local bluegrass concerts and starting bi-monthly shared meals with local co-ops.
• M: half American, half Catalan, she grew up locally and is a proud supporter of Barcelona. She’s the type of person who loves to say yes to new experiences and deep conversations (she is studying to be a therapist, after all!) Interests include psychedelic therapy and hiking.
